8/18/09 03:16 pm - The Honeymoon

Whoo, finally had chance to get some honeymoon photographs sorted out :) As with the post about The Wedding, I'm going to let the pictures tell the story...

First Stop: Maui, HI

Travel with us... )

So, as you cay see, we had a fantastic time. We were pretty relaxed when we got home and it took us quite a bit of time to get settled back into the pace of life! We loved Maui, enjoyed New York, fell in love with the Queen Mary 2, and would happily do any part (or all) of the trip again... I bet the bank account won't though... LOL :)

But, having flown transatlantic several times now, I can honestly say that cruisin' aboard her ladyship is definitely the way to go. Takes longer but is a whole heap more relaxing and enjoyable!

8/7/09 12:45 am - The Wedding...

... Or a picture tells a thousand words :)

Yup, almost three months on from the Big Day, and I'm finally back with photos! I could wax lyrical for ages about the day we had... The excellent weather, the fantastic friends and family who showered love and support upon us all weekend (and before/after), the delicious food, the vows, the music... (Actually, we had an amazing harpist for the day, who managed two very special tracks on her gorgeous harp -- I walked in to the theme from Practical Magic and we walked out to Heather Dale's Hunter.)

Or I could just let the pictures tell the story... *smiles* Enjoy!

Oh, and a huge thanks to Zoe Richards Photography for the photos... These are the actual, professional shots -- we have over 400 to go through (plus about 600+ photos from friends), so these are a small sampling! (A smattering more can be seen here, at Zoe's Blog.)

Just breathe...

More under here... )

Thank you to everyone who attended and/or sent their thoughts! We had a terrific day, as you can see... :) Special thanks are due to Sarah and Tanya at Sarah Haywood Weddings; the wonderful staff at Nunsmere Hall; [info]darkest_starlet for being my heart-sister, my chief bridesmaid, my best friend and for being there with me through everything -- and for co-officiating the handfasting; to [info]caebrug for also co-officiating the handfasting; to [info]iangregory for being the best man and ensuring [info]ajv didn't run off; and to [info]ebren for the beautiful and oh-so-appropriate handfasting cords. We love you all.

...And, of course, to [info]ajv: Simply, thank you. I love you.

5/8/09 02:25 pm - Quick Update

I've not had chance to post here of late, what with everything speeing up and the day fast approaching -- but the Guests-Only Area of our Web site went live several weeks ago, and all our on-the-day stationery is boxed and ready to go. The bridesmaids' dresses and all the ushers' suits have been collected, and I get my dress soon... So all's coming along nicely...

*squee* It'll be here before we know it...!

1/29/09 12:19 am - Invites and Guests-Only Area

The invites are in the post! Whoo! I am so, so thrilled about this :) What's more, I can't wait for our guests to start receiving them and seeing how glorious they are. Here's a sneak peek of how they look when closed:

invite

I love how the little tab on the front of the envelopment harkens back to our save-the-date cards which we sent out last June. Inside the invite some of our other motifs and logos (such as our intertwined ribbons and the Pentacle and Piano logo) are also carried through. Everything is flowing together nicely.

Thanks go to Hannah of Little Fish Events, for creating such delicious invites and working with us to make our stationery dreams come true!

The Guests-Only Area of our Web site is currently being updated and expanded with a whole host of new features. It should go live at some point in February -- so if you're one of our guests, please check back then to see what awaits in your exclusive, for your eyes only section. Whee!

1/28/09 11:19 am - Wedding Update

Well, the time has flown since my last entry here -- and with it, a lot of things on our to-do list have been achieved. Still got loads to do, and at times I don't know how we'll get it all done, but it's all in progress and we'll just continue with the planning as much as we can. Hopefully it'll all smoothe out before the Big Day. :-)

In any case, we have accomplished a huge amount of things recently. At the back-end of October we had a fantastic meeting with our wedding stylist, Hannah, where we got together over tea and coffee (and, in [info]ajv's case, fruit juice) to discuss the rest of our stationery. Hannah created our fabulous save-the-date cards and we wanted her to continue working with us to create our invites and on-the-day stationery. This meeting was the start of that, and by the end of it we had detailed a list of what we needed and also made a start on our invites themselves.

The next few months saw emails and telephone calls galore, as Hannah and ourselves finalised ideas, exchanged electronic proofs and sample papers and so on, and finally we approved our invites in January. Dad and I went to collect them from Hannah last week and they are as wonderful and professional as we'd hoped for!

While all that was going on, my chief bridesmaid ([info]darkest_starlet, aka Jo) and I went on some bridesmaid-reconnaissance trips to hunt out potential dress(es). We had seen one style, back in July, that everyone liked -- but we were unable to find it in any of the local bridal shops -- even driving up to an hour away! So we trekked to shops which offered the same designer to see if there was anything similar, and in the end we found a lovely dress with a more mature trim, not to mention embroidery that echoes my own dress. What's more, the pricing was very reasonable!

In November, Jo and I returned to that store with my other bridesmaids -- Helen V. and Charlotte (and Charlotte's mum, Helen W.) -- to get them all measured up and the dresses ordered. We had a lovely girlie day out which culminated in cream cakes and tea in a local café, where we discussed accessories, shoes and the like. The dresses should come in around end February/early March so we've plenty of time at that stage to sort out fittings and alternations.

In December [info]ajv and I went to Herefordshire to meet with the jeweller who designed and created my engagement ring. The appointment took about an hour, and meant that both [info]ajv and I got to talk through our ideas for wedding rings with the designer (a lovely lady named Alice, who loves garnets so she and I got along like a house on fire! LOL). As we worked through styles of rings, metals, decor, sizes and the likes, Alice sketched out some ideas for our wedding rings and quoted us for our favourite designs. And, by ther end of it all, we put down a deposit and commissioned our wedding rings! Whoo!

The rings should take around six-eight weeks to be made. Both are 18ct white gold, to match my engagement ring. Sadly, though, we have to return to the jewellers in January and leave my engagement ring with them so that they can shape my wedding ring to fit around the engagement ring -- the latter's garnet stands out some, so the former will be curved appopriately. It does mean that I will be without my engagement ring for about two months, which upsets me. I know why it must be done, of course!

However, [info]ajv later made up for this -- for just after the new year, he surprised me by placing a ring box on the dining table, just before we had dessert one night. And inside was a silver ring, set with a single garnet. Nothing as opulent and amazing as my engagement ring -- but similar enough for me to see garnet-and-white whenever I looked down at my hand. A temporary ring, he explained, for while my ring is with the jeweller.

Of course, he made me cry -- but in a good way. Isn't my man just the best?! :)

Also in January, we visited our venue and had our menu tasting. We'd had the menu since a visit in September (when we'd visited as they were preparing for a wedding, so we could see things like table layouts and decor, and oh wow, we definitely made the right choice here!)... Anyway, we chose two starters, mains and desserts from the menu to sample and went across to the venue on [info]ajv's birthday to enjoy the meal.

It truly was an amazing night as no-one else was booked into the hotel or restaurant, so we had the whole place to ourselves -- just us and the staff who were very attentive and understanding about everything. The entire meal -- from canapés through to dessert -- was delicious, and beautifully presented. [info]ajv and I shared each course, comparing notes on each other's dishes to see what we both thought -- and I also sampled some wine with the meal too.

A lovely finishing touch to the meal was that Craig, the chef, had decorated [info]ajv's plate with a birthday message -- a delightful and unexpected surprise. He certainly loved it, and it definitely shows the calibre of the establishment -- after all, most eateries one visits would make do with a candle or sparkler stuck in the top of the dessert and an out-of-tune rendition/bad recording of "Happy Birthday"... So this was very subtle and much appreciated -- many thanks go to our wedding planners for slipping a hint to the venue. :)

So where does all that leave us now...? Well, we have just about finalised the meal choices now and have also started looking at rooms at the venue -- we have hired the entire place so we get to allocate bedrooms to our guests before the week of the wedding, so we are familiarising ourselves with the floorplans and room options, as well as picking out rooms for those who have already booked. We have yet to pick out a red wine but that shouldn't be too hard, and then we just need to confirm the food and drink choices with the chef and sommelier.

My engagement ring went back to the jewellers last weekend, and now the temporary one is in place. It's taking some time to get used to as it feel so very different -- but as [info]ajv has said, I'll probably get used to it just as mine returns! LOL

We have made plans for [info]ajv's stag night and my hen party, and while his seems virtually sorted mine still requires a bit of work. I hope that I can get details finalised with Jo soon!

Oh, and thanks to [info]ajv's organised Best Man, Ian, we have suits booked and all the ushers, dads and [info]ajv need to do now is go to their local branch of the chain we're hiring them from and get themselves measured. Then the suits will be ready for collection just before the day. Another weight off my mind!

I think this weekend's plans include deciding on cake, researching my change-of-name, booking appointments for various things and also starting to buy bits and pieces for the venue décor... And next week I have my first wedding dress fitting, so between now and then I need to buy my bra and shoes! All this, and we're getting nearer to the 100-days-to-go mark... *squee*

There's loads more to do, but at least we're getting there -- together. And that's the important thing -- so many couples find wedding planning so stresful (and yes, it can be!), but [info]ajv and I are keeping at the core of things the reason why we are doing this, and that alone is making us smile and enjoy ourselves. It's amazing and it's wonderful and neither of us can wait!

9/24/08 04:50 pm - Flowers and... The Dress!

[info]ajv and I are really starting to get the ball rolling now. After months of just doing a little bit here and a little bit there, and then having a break away from wedding planning, we're beginning to delve more deeply into what needs doing. For instance, we have a list of things we'd like to discuss and get straight in our minds prior to the meeting we have with our wedding planner in November, so we'll be spending some time in October doing just that.

In the meantime, though, it's been a productive week. We finally made a decision about the florist and booked her. I'm feeling very optimistic about this and really quite excited about what she's going to make for us, so I can't wait to see it all!

The bigger news though is ... I found The Dress! *dances* It's actually one I tried on back in July, that I thought was "almost-but-not-quite IT"... Well, I was wrong. After dreaming about the dress more than a few times, and thinking about it randomly when I should have been thinking about other things, I went back to the shop and tried it on again... And then I knew. So much so that I tried it on again after considering some others, and then never wanted to take it off (despite the shop sample being a shade too big).

I didn't book it immediately; instead I wanted other opinions, so I dragged my sister and sister-in-law back there yesterday. And when I tried it on again, I wanted to cry. This was truly, honestly, IT.

My credit card's a bit sore now, but boy, was it worth it... Here's hoping it arrives when the shop says it will (early February) so that any alterations can be carried out in time for the Big Day.

9/17/08 05:00 pm - Dreams are funny things...

Last night, I had another wedding dream.

I used to think that bridal nightmares were stuff of legend, but no -- we brides do have them. The first one I had was back in September '07, when I dreamt that our wedding theme was actually rooted around the domain name pianoandsax.com, but we didn't notice that the Web address on the invites were wrong until someone pointed it out to us on the Big Day itself... So all our guests were expecting some kind of musical sex fiasco. :p

I've had several others since ... But last night's dream was bizarre to say the least. I dreamt that our wedding got gatecrashed by harmonica players. Pakistani harmonica players.

Where does my brain come up with this stuff? LOL ...

9/10/08 10:24 am - Flowers, Venue, Honeymoon...

Well, [info]ajv and I had a meeting with a potential florist on Saturday and it went really, really well. The florist was incredibly professional and perceptive and instantly grasped what we wanted to achieve. With her obvious enthusiasm and expertise we were able to decide upon descriptions for the flower arrangements we require. We were very comfortable with her and loved her attitude/outlook. Just got to discuss her quotation fully now!

Of course, what I feel really helped too was the fact that [info]ajv and I got together and really locked down what we wanted (and didn't want) for flower arrangements and the like. We got some really good ideas together for the bouquets, buttonholes etc, and also for dressing the venue -- so when we met with the florist our mindset was less scattered.

I need to sit down at some point and try out some ideas for venue dressings and so on -- and I'm tempted to hand-make our own confetti too, as the venue does not allow non-natural stuff. We do want lots of candles though, so I need to do some more research into that too!

We've also seen the proof of our engagement photo album now -- so hopefully it can go to press soon and then we will receive it! *squee*

In the meantime, I have to get my dress ideas finalised and bookings in progress. And [info]ajv is liaising with the travel agent regarding our honeymoon, so all that should be confirmed and fully booked at some point in the near future. We have a meeting with our wedding planner at the start of November, and it would be nice for most things to be in motion this side of Yule... Here's hoping!

8/14/08 05:43 pm - Wedding Dresses, Flowers and More!

Well, time has been flying since my last post here... We've been really busy -- there's this thing called Life that just goes to prove there are not enough hours in the day! But despite that I can say that wedding plans are coming on apace, which is good. :)

Together with my sisters and chief bridesmaid ([info]darkest_starlet) I went on a massive dress shop back in July and tried on some 30 dresses in a day... That was exhausting :( but I did find one that I particularly liked. It was lovely, but not The Dress -- it was oh-so slightly short of the mark. We had a superb girlie day out and I loved every minute (despite not being a girlie-girl)!

A few days later, [info]darkest_starlet and I went out dress shopping again, and I tried on a further eight dresses (so that's 38 total I've tried on so far) ... Again, I found one that was simply gorgeous -- even better than the one from a few days ago! -- but still, it was almost-but-not-quite IT.

The good news though is that I've narrowed down my dress ideas from not really knowing what I wanted to having a very clear, very detailed idea of what I want. Of course, making that happen may now involve a trip to a dressmaker... ;)

We were lucky though in that -- amongst looking at bridal gowns! -- we also found a potential bridesmaids' dress that may just suit all of the girls... And, initial research is suggesting that it may not be as expensive as I'd feared. Of course, if I end up having something bespoke made, it could be that it's more economical to have the girls' dresses made at the same time... We'll see, but at least I'm feeling more confident about it all now.

[info]ajv and I are currently exploring options for flowers -- we have another appointment for a florist at the beginning of September, so here's hoping it's productive. We could really do with knowing what we want before then (as in, more than just spouting off our wedding colours and wishing for miracles) so we're doing research into flowers and arrangements between now and then...

Our wonderful wedding planner (Sarah) and her assistant (Tanya) have sourced some other goodies for us -- like potential hair and beauty folk for the day itself. We are also looking forward to meeting up with our stylist (Hannah) at some point in the future to discuss the rest of our stationery and start looking at how we're going to decorate the venue.

Finally, [info]ajv and I visited our photographer (Zoë) at the start of August and saw all 116 (!) of our engagement photos. They are amazing -- we love them and are so thrilled that Zoe is such a great photographer! Further discussion and input from ourselves narrowed these 116 shots down to 53, which will go in an album. We can't wait to see how this works out! :)

We are now just under nine months out from the Big Day... Getting really excited now! *squee*
